This piece was created for the “Virtual Relocation” exhibition, a call for works to remix a favorite piece of art. It was originally published on newhive.com, where it was selected by a panel of judges to be part of an installation of works at the Goethe-Institut in San Francisco. The piece remixes Picasso’s “Weeping Woman” and Basquiat’s “Skull” with images I collected from the St. Louis Daily Record’s archive of photographs documenting the protests in Ferguson of the Michael Brown shooting. The piece is a 3-panel animated GIF file- a GIFtych- and backgrounds images of Michael Brown’s face and his mother’s face on 3 Google maps images that each show the location of the Brown shooting.
